Common wheel abnormalities in track flat cars include uneven wear, slippage, bearing overheating, and flange damage, each requiring targeted solutions.
Uneven tread wear stems from wheel-rail misalignment, overloading, or worn bearings-resolve by realigning wheels, limiting loads, and replacing bearings. Wheel slippage (often with squealing) occurs due to oily/dusty rails, worn treads, or insufficient motor power; clean rails, replace worn wheels, or adjust motor settings.
Bearing overheating (hubs exceeding 60°C) and buzzing result from poor lubrication, contamination, or damage-address via re-lubrication, cleaning, or bearing replacement. Flange cracks/bends come from rail joint impacts, excessive curve speed, or loose fasteners; repair/replace flanges, reduce curve speed, and tighten axle fasteners.
